Shifting Stillness
brings together 18 new oil paintings in an exploration of colour, surface and gesture. It highlights the simple yet often overlooked act of seeing. Detailed in its creation yet purposefully ambiguous in expression, the vibrant paintings lure the viewer to take a look from up close and then afar. Her paintings embody a sense of tension that drifts between the stillness and phenomenal movement of colours which continually changes the longer we observe them.

Through the repetitive process of blending by pushing paint back and forth which results in a uniform gradation of colour throughout the surface, Jamie is constantly taken aback by the unexpected outcomes of the rigid processes.

All artworks except for the winning artwork, Untitled (Kings Blue Light, Cadmium Yellow, Naples Yellow Red, Cadmium Red), are available for sale.

UOB is the organiser and sponsor of Shifting Stillness.

Untitled (Kings Blue Light, Cadmium Yellow, Naples Yellow Red, Cadmium Red) is at first glance a soothing image of colours blended into a sea of calm, but upon closer inspection, presents an opportunity to explore deeper the concepts of the elusive and the intangible.

By creating a work that lacks a central focus without a balanced composition, the artist encourages the viewer’s eyes to move across the canvas constantly, allowing them to explore the colours presented in front of them. The inability to focus thus prompts the viewers to contemplate the intangible in-between state of seeing and experiencing, letting them linger longer in their introspection of the work.
