Title: Anatomical Fantasies Of Meat
Medium: Archival Inkjet Print on Paper
Size (cm): 115.0 x 117.0 cm
Anatomical Fantasies Of Meat is a response to man's dominion over animals and a reminder of human ingenuity and bestiality. The artist explores beauty in the abject or reviled.
Mr Yuen's control of light and shadow camouflages his subjects so that we are arrested by forms that are at once alien yet familiar. He in fact choreographs animal offal, flesh and innards to convey their viscosity, texture and muscularity in suggestive ways. What looks like a cobweb or insect sac turns out to be animal's stomach. Plant-like branches turn out to be chicken feet shrewdly arranged to trigger multiple associations.
