Artist: Pannaphan Yodmanee, (b.1989, Thailand)
Title: Berg Fah Mai (Open New Sky)
Medium: Mixed Medium
Size (cm): 135.0 X 115.0 cm
In Berg Fah Mai Ms Yotmani tells a modern day story about the impact of global warming using traditional Thai folk iconography. Lotus leaves, statues of Buddha, temples and curling clouds float across the canvas in this alternate reality. She fuses the past and the present by combining drawing, lining and gold leaf pasting with modern materials such as resin.
The artist believes that the only way for humans to make up for the negative impact of global warming on the planet is to do good deeds. When an end comes to the old damaged world, only those who do good will be reincarnated into the new world.
Ms Yotmani is a graduate of Silpakorn University, Thailand where she is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Fine Art.
