Title: Portrayal of Development
Medium: Acrylic on paper cassette
Size (cm): 87 x 81cm
Portrayal of Development is Mr Ng's call for the preservation of the natural world. Modernisation has led to better living but has also resulted in the sacrifice of Mother Nature. Deforestation occurs at the whim of humanity with millions of hectares of forest and hundreds of animal species lost each year.
The focus of Mr Ng's painting is a giant robot formed from construction vehicles that tears through a decimated and burning forest. Its cold steel takes on a fiery life of its own personifying the unrelenting path of destruction that humans have embarked on. The robot has no eyes, and like the humans who turn a blind eye to the damage being done to nature, it does not stop to see the consequences of its actions.
