Smithereens is Mr Lim’s contemplation on family relationships. The painting portrays Mr Lim desperately saving a broken flowerpot, which represents the fragmentation of relations. Despite the gloomy scene, the use of bright colours represents hope and a determination to change the state of things instead of resigning to fate.

Mr Lim is a 15-year-old Art Elective Programme (AEP) student at Bukit Panjang Government High. Having started to draw at a young age, he has developed a keen passion for art since.
